Leicester City received a huge boost over the international break as they were found not guilty of a Premier League PSR charge following an appeal process.
The Premier League initially charged Leicester City with breaching their spending rules for the three-year period up until June 2023 in March.
However, Leicester refuted the charge and submitted an appeal to be heard by an independent panel.
The verdict was given last week, with the panel siding with Leicester’s argument which centred around the weak wording of the legislation and the fact the Foxes were no longer a Premier League club at the time they were asked to submit their finances.
The Premier League have reportedly already begun the process of re-drafting their legislation to avoid another club exploiting a similar loophole but for Leicester the news that they have escaped punishment is a huge relief.
Steve Cooper speaks on Leicester City PSR decision
Steve Cooper is preparing his Leicester side for a trip to face Crystal Palace on Saturday and faced the media on Thursday to preview the clash.
In his press-conference, Cooper was inevitably asked about the PSR ruling, where he explained the impact of the situation by saying: “The club in general has been very calm and the day-to-day it hasn’t been too much of a distraction – we told the tram to try not to let it affect them.”
Cooper then went on to add: “It’s good that the can and supporters have clarity on it, but it hasn’t affected the work we do here on the training ground.
“But, it was a chance for us to stand together to show how strong we are as a club and not let anything get at us.”
PSR appeal decision means Leicester City can focus on the football for now
Leicester ultimately avoided prosecution for the March charge from the Premier League on a technicality but they are not out the woods yet given the state of the club’s finances.
However, for now at least, everyone at the club can focus on what is happening on the pitch without the threat of an imminent points deduction looming.
So far, Cooper’s side have just one point from three games but have two vital league games coming up against Palace on Saturday and then bottom of the table Everton a week later.
The Foxes should be eyeing at least four points from the six available in order to really kickstart their Premier League return.
