Leicester City picked up their first Premier League victory of the season on Saturday.
The Foxes defeated Bournemouth 1-0 at King Power Stadium with Facundo Buonanotte netting the only goal of the game.
Steve Cooper’s men started the game brightly but slowly retreated into their own half during the second period and had to defend resolutely late on.
With that said, a talkSPORT pundit has now critiqued Cooper’s style of play despite picking up three points.
Dean Ashton doesn’t see Steve Cooper’s style of play
Speaking on talkSPORT, former West Ham United striker Dean Ashton criticised Steve Cooper for his lack of a style.
“I am yet to look at a Steve Cooper side and know how are they playing, what is it that sort of sets them aside and what he wants his team to do.
“Today was very much we’re going to go forward early, hit the front early, flick it in behind for [Jamie] Vardy.
“There’s nothing wrong with that, but then they were separate parts where they are trying to play right out from the goalkeeper.
“There was just a strong identity last season.
“I am yet to see that from Steve Cooper, but ultimately, I can’t criticise him too much because he made a big call before the game and it worked.”
Steve Cooper needs to release the handbrake
Whilst ultimately the game plan worked, Leicester still played with the handbrake on and it could’ve cost them had Bournemouth taken their chances.
Cooper’s pragmatic style is yet to convince City fans but there’s certainly more positivity heading into this international break than the last.
Leicester are back in action on Saturday 19th October as they take on Southampton.
