Vardy, Vestergaard, Stolarczyk – Leicester City injury update ahead of Arsenal

Leicester City will have three players unavailable for the trip to Arsenal with no changes to the squad that faced Everton.

Jannik Vestergaard, Jakub Stolarczyk, and Patson Daka are all out with foot and ankle injuries and won’t be in the travelling party heading to the Emirates on Saturday (3pm kick-off). But every City player who featured in the midweek Carabao Cup tie at Walsall has come through unscathed giving manager Steve Cooper a strong group to choose from.

Equally, those who were left out of the squad at the Poundland Bescot Stadium, like Harry Winks, Wilfred Ndidi, Stephy Mavididi, and Jamie Vardy, are also in contention to face Arsenal. Vardy is fit despite taking a kick to the ankle against Everton, the number nine also missing the first couple of days training this week.

“We had a few bumps and bruises from Everton and some lads didn’t make it on Tuesday,” Cooper said at his press conference on Thursday afternoon. “Everybody came through Tuesday okay. Jannik Vestergaard is not available. It’s the same squad as the last Premier League game.”

Sub goalkeeper Stolarczyk has spent the longest period on the sidelines, undergoing surgery on his foot after sustaining an injury in training in just Cooper’s second week in charge, back in July. But he’s now made a breakthrough in his recovery, the Pole expected to be out for another six-to-eight weeks.

“He’s walked out on the grass today so he’s making good progress,” Cooper said. “We’re getting really good reports on his attitude to his recovery. It was so innocuous how he did it. It was just a back pass he played away and broke his foot. He’s been really positive about the place.

“He looks like he’s had a breakthrough in terms of getting out on the grass and doing a bit of handling. We’ll hopefully see him sooner rather than later.”
