Leicester 5-0 Southampton: Foxes take huge step towards promotion
It was set up as a huge game at the top end of the Championship last night but only one side turned up wanting to get the job done, as Leicester took a 1-0 lead into half-time through Abdul Fatawu’s cool finish – like Willy Gnonto, appeared offside when he was played through.
However, the Foxes deserved their lead and turned the screw in the second half as the away side completely caved in.
Fatawu scored another two for his hattrick while Wilfred Ndidi and Jamie Vardy also netted in a 5-0 battering, sparking wild celebrations in the home dressing room post-match, captured on social media by Yunus Agkun:
Jamie Vardy reacts to huge Leicester result with promotion verdict
Having suffered from poor form of late, Foxes icon Jamie Vardy has scored two massive goals in the last two games for his side to see them now one win away from automatic promotion – which they can seal at Deepdale against Preston on Monday night.
Speaking post-match live on Sky Sports, Vardy is fully focused on completing the job against Preston:
“We’ve still got two games left, six points to play for. We’ve got to make sure that we’re ready for Monday night now, we go again. Definitely [promotion at Preston]. We go into every game, wanting to win.
“Knowing that we’re capable of beating anyone. We’ll recover, the lads have put graft in, get back, train and then Monday night.”
