BREAKING NEWS: Logan Sargeant’s crash at Zandvoort during the FP3 just  open the door for Mick Schumacher’s return to Formula 1

Mick Schumacher: Williams chance thanks to Sargeant crash:

– Logan Sargeant’s crash at Zandvoort during the FP3 may open the door for Mick Schumacher’s return to Formula 1 sooner than expected.

Sargeant lost control of his Williams at 200 km/h on wet roads, crashing backwards into the barrier. The impact was so severe that the car caught fire, making qualifying impossible. The damage is estimated to be several hundred thousand euros.

– Williams Boss James Vowles was visibly frustrated by the incident, especially since it wasn’t the first time Sargeant had crashed.

“Hundreds of hours have been invested in the update, it looks like it will work, but there are only a few of them in the world. It’s worst if you’re just introducing it and drive it into the wall on the racetrack,” Vowles said.

– Although Vowles mentioned he wouldn’t make an emotional decision, his anger suggested otherwise. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff, Vowles’ former boss, also commented on the situation, saying,

“I can hardly judge it. Audi is the only team that has not yet named its second driver. And I also don’t know what Williams will do after today’s debacle.”

– According to F1-Insider, Vowles is reportedly considering replacing Sargeant as early as the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, with Mick Schumacher being a likely candidate. Schumacher is already in the mix as Mercedes’ reserve driver and has experience with both McLaren and Williams. His knowledge of the Mercedes engine in the Williams is also an advantage.

– The competition for the seat seems limited. Red Bull’s Liam Lawson, who was initially considered as a replacement, won’t be available for the entire season, and Mercedes would prefer not to have a Red Bull driver getting access to their power unit secrets.

– Another candidate, Williams Junior Franco Colapinto, is currently racing in Formula 2 and lacks Formula 1 experience.

– Interestingly, Nyck de Vries made his F1 debut with Williams in Monza two years ago and performed so well that he secured a full-time cockpit with AlphaTauri the following year. Could Mick Schumacher be the next to benefit from such an opportunity?
