A New York Mets beat reporter has claimed that the MLB franchise barred him from referring to Hailey Welch as ‘Hawk Tuah’ girl after she threw the first pitch, Thursday.
Tim Healey, who’s been reporting on the Mets for Newsday since 2018, revealed that he was instructed not to spit out anything regarding Welch’s rise to fame during her appearance on the mound before the game against the Oakland A’s.
He didn’t specify why but it’s fair to assume that his bosses believe an explanation of Welch going viral a few months back is just a bit too much for their readers.
The Hawk Tuah girl threw out the first pitch at the Mets game for some reason. They introduced her as a ‘viral sensation’,’ Healey posted on X.
He later added: ‘Update: I am not allowed to mention in Newsday who threw out the first pitch for the Mets today.’
Healey’s followers blasted the outlet’s decision under his post on X as one individual reacted: ‘Newsday: our readers aren’t allowed to know that blow jobs exists.’
‘Do they not think that people will find out or already know who it is? Given what else is reported in the newspapers, that’s like putting your heads in the sand and hoping it’s missed. Saying this as a Newsday subscriber,’ someone else wrote.
‘Bunch of Puritans,’ another person added.
Just hours before Thursday’s game, Welch told TMZ that she had been personally invited by the Mets to be their special guest.
‘Going to my first baseball game,’ she said.
Welch’s appearance at Citi Field was her first since a video of her showing how to give good oral sex went viral on social media earlier this summer.
However, Mets fans weren’t impressed by their ballclub’s choice of celebrity guest.
Welch later revealed that she was actually at the Mets game for a cause that she holds close to heart.
‘So I guess some of the baseball community wasn’t too happy to see me yesterday,’ she posted on X on Friday.
‘The main reason I went to the game was to spread awareness and donate to America’s vet dogs which pairs dogs with war veterans for a forever home.
‘Join me in donating to this amazing charity. I miss ya already Buddy.’
