BREAKING NEWS: Club looking to finalise deal for Luton Town man after impressive loan

Luton Town goalkeeper Jack Walton is being chased by Dundee United as they look to keep their loan star permanently, as per the Daily Record (Transfer news live, 25.06.24, 14:39).

Luton Town are coming back to the Football League after a year in the top-flight

The Hatters put in a courageous fight against relegation from the Premier League but ultimately dropped back to the Championship with games to spare. Now, the focus turns to gearing up for a promotion fight.

Relegation means there are some players who will likely be prized elsewhere, though goalkeeper Jack Walton is among those who had been touted for an exit regardless.

He spent the 2023/24 season on loan in the Scottish Championship with Dundee United and now, the Daily Record states the Tangerines are pushing to take him back to Tannadice this summer.

Talks are ongoing and Luton Town are likely to green light the move, it is said. Walton starred in their title-winning season, keeping 23 clean sheets and conceding only 32 goals in 44 games north of the border.

Better off elsewhere?

Walton found game time with Barnsley before his Luton Town move but in his half-season with the Hatters before heading out on loan, he never played for his new club.

The stint in Scotland with Dundee United has served as a reminder of what Walton is capable of in the sticks, so it’s no surprise that the promoted side are keen to get him back.

A return to Kenilworth Road likely won’t bring the starting football he has become familiar with north of the border, so Walton may well have his sights firmly set on a move away.

Time will tell whether or not a deal can be struck but given his place in the pecking order at Luton Town, you have to feel a move would be ideal for all this summer.

Next season’s ‘keepers

It could be that a new goalkeeper is on the radar at Luton Town next season, especially if Walton leaves.

James Shea is still under contract but Tim Krul’s future is up in the air. Thomas Kaminski held down the starting spot last season and given his Championship pedigree, many would expect him to remain in between the sticks for Edwards.

An exit for Krul will open up a place in the squad, perhaps one that Walton could fill. However, the chance for him to head elsewhere after such a strong season could be tough for him to turn down.

Dundee United should be confident of bringing him in after his loan success and it would be a surprise if Luton Town stood in his way, even though they may need another backup for Kaminski.
