Luton Town are keeping tabs on Dijon FCO attacker Cyriaque Irie, as per a report from Get French Football News.
Luton Town are preparing for Championship football again after a memorable one-year stay in the Premier League.
The Hatters punched massively above their weight to make it to the top-flight and made a real fist of things in their scrap against relegation. Ultimately though, they came up short and will be back in the second-tier.
If they can keep some key players and add some fresh blood, Rob Edwards’ side should be right in the fight for an immediate return to the Premier League.
Now, an intriguing link with a sought-after prospect has emerged.
According to a report from Get French Football News, Luton Town are keeping tabs on Burkina Faso prospect Cyriaque Ilie, who plays in France for Dijon FCO. It comes amid reports from L’Equipe that Italian giants AC Milan have seen a €3m bid for Irie knocked back.
In what was his maiden year for the club, 19-year-old Irie notched seven goals and three assists in 26 games.
An eye-catching target
Having been the subject of a rejected bid from AC Milan, Irie could be quite the catch for Luton Town.
It might not come cheap though. €3m for a fairly unproven 19-year-old is a pretty significant outlay, so the Hatters would be sure to carefully assess their interest before making a move of their own.
Dijon only play in France’s third-tier, so while Irie has impressed at a young age, it would be asking a lot of him to perform at a level as competitive as the Championship.
Irie looks to be quite the prospect though, as suggested by the fact he’s caught AC Milan’s eye. That could make it a tricky deal for Luton Town to strike, but it remains to be seen if their interest materialises into anything more concrete.
Attacking additions eyed?
Irie usually operates through the middle as a striker or out on the right-wing. He’s offered threat from both positions, displaying versatility that could be a great trait for him in the years to come.
A move for him could hint towards some potential exits at Luton Town this summer, as they’re already fairly well-stocked in both those areas.
Chiedozie Ogbene, Tahith Chong and Andros Townsend are among the options in the right. As for up top, Carlton Morris and Elijah Adebayo are the leading strikers with Jacob Brown, Cauley Woodrow and the returning Joe Taylor all available too.
