Huddersfield Town look to have clinched a deal to sign Luton Town striker Joe Taylor.
Last night, Alan Nixon reported that the Terriers are closing in on a deal to sign the forward, who is expecting to join the club on a loan deal with no option to buy.
Michael Duff’s side will be hoping to secure a return to the Championship at the first time of asking – but they will face a tough task in that quest with potential promotion rivals Birmingham City looking very strong.
Others, including Bolton Wanderers, are also likely to be in the League One promotion mix at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
In terms of the Terriers’ summer transfer business, they have been able to recruit some excellent additions, with Lasse Sorensen coming in as their first summer signing from Lincoln City.
He was a real asset for the Imps last season and could be a very useful player for the West Yorkshire club out wide.
Mickel Miller, Herbie Kane and Antony Evans can also be real threats at this level and should be able to help Huddersfield in their quest to force their way into the promotion mix.
There’s work to be done in the striker department though, with Jordan Rhodes being released on the expiration of his deal and Tyreece Simpson sealing a permanent exit from the John Smith’s Stadium.
Bailey Cadamarteri and Dom Ballard have recently been linked with a move to Huddersfield, but Taylor looks like the man who is set to make the move to West Yorkshire.
Huddersfield Town close in on Joe Taylor
The Terriers believe that they have struck a deal to take Taylor on loan, according to Nixon.
However, they look set to face a wait, with Luton needing to give the forward permission to seal this deal.
That permission is yet to be given, with the Hatters looking to bring in a striker in the coming days.
Rob Edwards’ side already have a decent number of options up top, with the likes of Elijah Adebayo, Carlton Morris and Jacob Brown all able to be valuable assets at this level.
However, it looks as though Edwards is keen to add more firepower to his attack before sanctioning an exit for Taylor, who did well on loan at Colchester United and Lincoln last season, making the step up to the third tier without any issues.
Joe Taylor could benefit from Huddersfield Town move
Taylor did well in League Two with Colchester during the first half of last season.
And having stepped up well to the third tier and been just as effective for Lincoln, some would argue that he should be playing in the second tier during the upcoming campaign.
But he may not win too much game time there and this is why he could benefit from stepping down a division.
Huddersfield could compete for promotion back to the second tier during the 2024/25 season and Taylor could play a big part in that.
Many excellent players have shone in the third tier before and have gone on to do well at the top level, including Brennan Johnson and Morgan Rogers, something that should give Taylor a lot of encouragement.
