Watch our latest arrival give his thoughts on joining on loan from Mainz
“If I make mistakes I want the manager to tell me – it’s important to me.”
As first impressions of a new signing’s attitude go, Tom Krauß is up there.
“I will learn every day. It’s important to get better and better and to be a good strong player for Luton. I’m excited to be here.”
The 23-year-old midfielder completed his season-long loan move from Mainz on Thursday, bringing over 130 games of experience in the top two tiers of Germany to Bedfordshire.
And the German under-21 international, who can’t wait to kick-start his career at Kenilworth Road, is already saying the right things.
“I like English football and English football fans and that’s why I’m here and I can’t wait,” he says in his first interview with LTFC+.
“For me I started playing football to play for the fans. They are important for clubs and for the players, so I like to speak and celebrate with them.”
On the experience that he’ll bring to the Town squad, Krauß said: “I was at Leipzig for 10 years and it was important to get my first professional contract there.
“After that I had two good years with Nürnberg, where I played a lot of games, then a good year with Schalke, even though we were relegated. Last year I signed for Mainz and now I can’t wait for my first minutes here in England.
“Germany has a different style of football, but I’ve played a lot of games. It’s helped me play my style and I know I’ve said it several times already, but I’m excited.”
What pleased Rob Edwards the most was the midfielder’s hunger to join the club – and now Krauß is aiming to repay the faith shown in him by the manager.
“It was really important to talk to Rob about what is idea of football is and I think his game style is the same as mine, so it was a good conversation,” he said.
Hatters fans will have to wait, however, to see Tom in action as he recovers from a slight knock sustained while training with Mainz.
“I feel good, it was a little injury two weeks ago,” he explained. “Rob said I’m a machine so hopefully I’ll be back in the next weeks, hopefully after the international break.
“But it’s feeling better from day to day now.”
