Wigan Athletic hit hot negotiations with Bradford City as star player set for exit before 30th

Bradford City are in talks with Charlie Wyke following his exit from Wigan Athletic, according to reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon.

Bradford City are interested in luring the striker back to Valley Parade this summer on a free transfer. They are preparing for another year in League Two next season and are in the hunt for some new signings.

Wyke, 31, has cut ties with Wigan Athletic following the end of the last campaign after they decided not to hand him an extension. His contract at the DW Stadium officially expires at the end of this month and he will be weighing up his options at this moment in time.

In this latest update regarding his situation by journalist Nixon on his Patreon page, the player is in discussions over a potential return to the Bantams. He could be seen by Graham Alexander as someone to bolster his attacking department.

Bradford City eye striker

Wyke was a hit during his time at Bradford City from 2017 to 2018 and scored 23 goals in 62 games in all competitions.

Luring him back to West Yorkshire would be a no-brainer and he would inject more experience into their ranks.

The North East-born man started his career at Middlesbrough and rose up through the academy of his local side.

He never made a senior appearance for Boro though and left on a permanent basis for Carlisle United after loan spells away from the Riverside Stadium at Hartlepool United and AFC Wimbledon.

Wyke was sold by Bradford City to Sunderland and went on to score 42 times in 114 matches for the Black Cats.

Wigan Athletic then landed him in 2021 and he spent time on loan at Rotherham United during the second-half of last term.

What next for Bradford City target?

Wyke needs to decide whether he would be willing to drop down in League Two, especially after playing in the Championship last season for the Millers.

Landing his signature would be a big statement of intent by the Bantams. They will be hoping that they can claw themselves out of the fourth tier as soon as possible.
