Erik ten Hag not happy as Man Utd’s young midfield prospect ask to leave

Zidane Iqbal, a Manchester United midfielder, is looking for a loan move in January.

Manchester United must make a choice on Zidane Iqbal after Erik ten Hag left him on the bench in their 3-0 Carabao Cup quarter-final success over Charlton Athletic.

The Manchester Evening News reports that the 19-year-old midfielder is eager to go on loan this month.

United officials believe it is in Iqbal’s best interests to train with the first team for the remainder of the season before heading on a season-long loan in the summer.

Iqbal has been an unused replacement 11 times this season after impressing fans in senior team-friendly games.

Even though he is still extremely young, he is further along in his growth than most players his age.

The game against Charlton was regarded to be an ideal occasion for Iqbal to make his competitive debut under Ten Hag.

However, the management chose to give 17-year-old Kobbie Mainoo his complete debut.

Casemiro and Christian Eriksen came on as replacements in the second half, while Iqbal sat on the bench.

Iqbal’s only senior debut for United came as a substitute against Young Boys in the Champions League group stage in December 2021.

Ten Hag understandably wants squad depth, especially given the World Cup’s impact on the schedule.

Donny van de Beek’s injury will have also made him warier of the midfield.

Iqbal, on the other hand, needs to gain some playing time. Iqbal is likely to continue at the club if Ten Hag can give him more opportunities, at least as a substitute.
