Leicestershire’s most recent Leicester City news is Live amid speculation about the futures of James Maddison and Youri Tielemans, as well as links with Newcastle United
Leicester City midfielder James Maddison is said to be “at the top of Newcastle’s list” for a summer transfer, but doubts have emerged about the club’s previously reported interest in Youri Tielemans.
Maddison, an England international, has been a key figure in the Foxes’ midfield in recent seasons. Since joining from Norwich City in 2018, the 26-year-old has scored 42 goals and provided 30 assists in nearly five years in the Premier League.
And, as a result of his impressive performances since arriving at the King Power Stadium, Maddison has been linked to Premier League rivals such as Newcastle, who are said to be interested in the attacking midfielder.
Long-term targets, most notably Maddison, are still of great interest, according to the Athletic. Eddie Howe hopes to build on a successful first full season at Newcastle and launch the next phase of the club’s ambitious rebuild as they aim to return to European football next season.
They claim Maddison is viewed as a hybrid midfielder-forward target due to his ability to play in a variety of offensive positions, and he remains at the top of Newcastle’s list. According to the report, after failing to sign him last summer, a January deal was never considered realistic, but Howe believes Maddison can add a new attacking dimension to his team.
Tielemans, his midfield teammate, has also been a key player for Brendan Rodgers’ side since joining on loan in January 2019 before completing a permanent move to City the following summer. Since his arrival at the King Power Stadium, the Belgian has scored 21 league goals for the Foxes.
However, it is unclear whether previous attempts to sign Tielemans will be revived, even if the Belgium international is available on a free transfer after his contract expires at the end of the season, with wage demands a concern.
