Manchester United offered Donny van de Beek plus cash to sign attacking midfielder

On Friday, the FIGC Court of Appeal docked Juve 15 points in Serie A after the club was found guilty of capital gain breaches. They were accused of using fraudulent gains from club transfers to balance their books.

Following an inquiry of the club’s finances, which purportedly showed the irregularities, the decision was made.

Former club president Andrea Agnelli and ex-chief executive Maurizio Arrivabene were both suspended for two years, as were former director Pavel Nedved (eight months), currently sporting director Federico Cherubini (16 months), and current Tottenham managing director Fabio Paratici (30 months).

It is unclear whether Paratici’s punishment goes beyond Italy and, more particularly, to his work at Tottenham Hotspur.

Juventus has denied any wrongdoing and announced in a club statement that they will appeal the FIGC judgment to the Sports Guarantee Board in accordance with the Sports Justice Code.

The points deduction decision has fueled speculation about the future of Juventus’ best players. Following the judgment, the Old Lady was in 11th place, 12 points outside the Champions League places, and will face a big uphill climb to qualify for Europe’s premier competition if the deduction is sustained on appeal.

And United could potentially make a fresh attempt to sign one of the club’s top midfielders.

According to defense filings from the capital gains case, United submitted a player-plus-cash bid to Juve for USA international McKennie in August 2021.

According to Football Italia, club directors were wiretapped for more than a year in order for the public prosecutor in the case to acquire evidence.

According to the TMW story, then-president Agnelli sought a €50 million price to cement the deal for McKennie, but the Red Devils were unwilling to invest such a large sum.

Instead, it is reported that they proposed a €28 million fee, as well as Donny van de Beek traveling in the opposite direction, to complete the deal.

McKennie, on the other hand, stayed at Juventus and has made 20 appearances in all competitions for Max Allegri’s team this season.

According to Football Italia, Juve would be willing to trade the 24-year-old, which means Erik ten Hag’s side might make another bid in January or the summer.
