Paul Merson and Chris Sutton deliver ominous Manchester United prediction vs Arsenal

Manchester United go into the match with one win in their last seven Premier League matches having just been walloped 4-0 by Crystal Palace.

Three pundits believe Manchester United will lose to Arsenal at Old Trafford this Sunday by at least two goals, with one former Premier League winner predicting that the Gunners could win by four.

Monday’s 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace was one of a number of low points for United this season and adds to the scrutiny placed on Erik ten Hag amid questions over his future with the club now fighting for a top six spot. Arsenal are meanwhile still trying to push Manchester City all the way in the title race and come into the game on a four-match winning run in which they have scored 13 times and have kept three clean sheets.

Many analysts fear for United this weekend and few have confidence that United could earn a result. Three of them believe the hosts will get swept aside easily as Arsenal continue to power through the run-in with three fixtures left to play.

Manchester United fans need to stop living in the past and pretending we are still in the Sir Alex Ferguson era. My favourite team of the Premier League era was Ferguson’s Treble-winning side of 1999, so for everyone who thinks I dislike United, I don’t.

They were also the best team the Premier League has ever seen but, while they were brilliant then, they are not anymore. Their manager Erik ten Hag is off at the end of the season, I’m convinced of that, and Arsenal should wipe the floor with them at Old Trafford.

The only question is whether the Gunners turn up but even if they are below their best, this could end up being a cricket score. I’ve got to say that while I’ve been critical of Bruno Fernandes in regards to the Manchester United captaincy, they missed him badly against Palace.

United really need Fernandes back for this game but, even if he is fit, the only way they can win is by defending in numbers and taking whatever chances they get on the counter-attack.

They will also need Arsenal to not quite be at it but, with what is at stake, I think the opposite will apply. I am expecting the Gunners to win easily.

Prediction: Manchester United 1-5 Arsenal

Manchester United, I couldn’t believe what I was watching against Crystal Palace. People will say they had injuries, but they had all international footballers on the pitch! It was an absolutely shocking performance and if they play like that against Arsenal, they’ll concede four or five goals again.

I don’t think United are top four material next season and it’ll be interesting to see what they do with Erik ten Hag. Manchester United are undoubtedly one of the biggest clubs in Europe, but in my opinion, not a lot of managers will queue up to take the job because of how the club has been run in recent years.

Prediction: Manchester United 1-3 Arsenal

I don’t know who’s going to play at the back for Manchester United or whether they’ve got someone coming back to fitness, but they were just a mess against Palace.

What I couldn’t understand was, if you’ve got no centre backs you’ve just got to play defensively and hope your three lads up front can nick a goal but there was none of that they were just wide open.

As poor as Casemiro was, I felt a bit sorry for him because he got massive blame and everybody knows he can’t run! That’s football, but I’ll go for a comfortable Arsenal away win – hopefully!

Prediction: Manchester United 0-3 Arsenal.
