Man United was interested in signing Jurrien Timber the Dutch international from Ajax last summer, but the player chose to remain in Amsterdam. With a World Cup spot on the line, the 21-year-old chose not to swap clubs.
However, United’s desire has not subsided. According to The Sun, Ten Hag has directed the club’s scouts to keep an eye on more than a dozen Dutch teenagers, including Timber. Despite his former player’s departure last summer, the 52-year-old remains interested in him.

Timber was Ten Hag’s major defensive target during the previous transfer window, but he declined. United then signed his teammate Lisandro Martinez, who has quickly become a fan favorite at Old Trafford because of his impressive performances in central defense.
The Dutchman did not want to jeopardize his World Cup selection by joining United, but he may be given another chance. Ten Hag is still eager in signing him, and his adaptability could be a deciding factor in United making a new transfer offer.
This season, the £40 million star has played as a central defender for Ajax, but he has previously played as a right-back. Ten Hag appreciates versatile players and should be happy to sign Timber, whom he knows well from his time at Ajax.
Ajax’s price tag could be a huge stumbling barrier for a transfer. Last summer, the Dutch giants took advantage of United’s necessity by setting exorbitant asking rates for Martinez and Antony. If they return for Timber, they could do something similar.
United should have learned their lesson from the summer processes, and they should begin negotiations with Ajax as soon as possible to avoid paying too much. Timber would be an excellent acquisition for United. He is still in the prime years of his profession.
