Fluminense has ‘unveiled’ Newcastle United player Bruno Guimaraes as he exercises with the club ahead of International duty.
Fluminense, a Brazilian club, posted a cheeky Instagram photo of Bruno Guimaraes in full training gear, holding up a shirt with the words “Bruno G. 39” printed on the back. The caption then explains how Bruno is merely training with the Rio de Janeiro-based side ahead of linking up with the Brazil national squad. Much to the relief of Newcastle fans everywhere.
The caption read: “The midfielder, Bruno Guimaraes is training at CT Carlos Castilho to maintain physical shape, with an eye on the commitments with the National Team!” Although Instagram’s in-built translation refers to Bruno as a steering wheel, which is odd.
It was certainly a heart-stopping moment when it popped up Newcastle fans’ Instagram feeds, seeing one of our most popular players holding another club’s shirt with his name on the back.
Bruno has been suffering from an ankle niggle for some time, and if he takes any kind of break in training, it’s likely that it may seize, ruling him out of representing his country alongside club teammate and rookie Joelinton (assuming he’s selected for first-team play).
Following the completion of the season Bruno did confirm that his ankle ailment wouldn’t need surgery just a rest, but he will play through it for a bit longer when Brazil take on Guinea and Senegal later this month.
It’s quite improbable that he’ll be seen holding up another club’s shirt with his name on it for real. The £40 million signing from Lyon has repeatedly expressed his love for the club and the city, and he is currently in talks to become Newcastle’s all-time highest earner, with a £200,000-per-week contract offer on the table.
Still, don’t terrify us like that again, Bruno, we’ve been harmed too many times before.
