This weekend, Newcastle United will welcome one of their summer transfer targets to St James’ Park.
Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has been identified as a possible summer signing for Newcastle as head coach Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his midfield options. The 26-year-old Scottish international has made just one Premier League start since the World Cup break, giving him a total of seven starts this season.
McTominay is expected to be part of Manchester United’s Premier League squad that faces Newcastle at St James’ Park on Sunday (4:30pm kick-off). If he gets on the field, Howe and his coaching staff will be able to get a better look at him.
Newcastle’s backroom staff agrees that McTominay would be an excellent addition to the club’s midfield. Former Newcastle midfielder John Barnes agrees as well.
Barnes told futfanatico.com, “I think McTominay would be a good fit for Newcastle.” “He’s a solid central defensive midfielder.” He is young and British, so he is familiar with the Premier League.
“That is, if ten Hag is looking to move him on. It’s obviously speculative, but I don’t understand why ten Hag would want to move McTominay on because he’s young and British.”
“I’d be surprised because he’s a great addition to the Manchester United squad.” McTominay, on the other hand, would be a good signing for Newcastle.”
McTominay was valued at £58 million by CIES Football Observatory Weekly at the start of the season, though Man United would realistically consider around half of that if Newcastle made a move.
