Christian Pulisic is one of several Chelsea players linked with a move to Newcastle United in recent months, and Ally McCoist believes he is on his way out.
There was a lot of speculation about Pulisic joining Newcastle in January, with a big money move rumored for the American. That, however, did not occur.
Instead, the winger has been forced to remain at Stamford Bridge due to injury.
However, with Graham Potter’s massive roster, it is unavoidable that some players will leave this summer.
Speaking on TalkSPORT, Ally McCoist predicted that Pulisic would be one of the players released by Chelsea at the end of the season.
“I looked at the squad,” he admitted.
“They have 32 players, which is ridiculous.” You could begin wherever you want.
“Azpilicueta. Kante may surprise many people. He’s 31, so you should look into his fitness. I’m not sure about Zakaria. Another one I’m not sure about is Chukwuemeka. Pulisic will almost certainly be released. Ziyech will undoubtedly accompany us.”
McCoist thinks two Newcastle targets will depart
If Chelsea decides to part ways with Pulisic, Newcastle will undoubtedly be involved. The Magpies have previously been said to be ‘obsessed’ with the 24-year-old, who has been a target for the past two transfer windows.
Another player mentioned by McCoist is Hakim Ziyech, who has also been on Newcastle’s radar.
In January, Eddie Howe’s side were heavily linked with the Moroccan winger, who was seen as a replacement for Anthony Gordon. Newcastle’s interest, however, ended when the Gordon deal was completed.
Then Ziyech had a deadline day to remember, with a move to PSG falling through at the last second.
According to McCoist, the £33 million attacker will be on the move, but it would be surprising if Newcastle rekindled their interest. This is largely due to Ziyech’s age, as he recently turned 30.
Pulisic is a much more likely target, but his injury history should worry Newcastle fans. Another issue is his recent form, with Pulisic scoring just three goals in all competitions this season. That is one fewer than Jacob Murphy has.
