The 14-year-old wonderkid will join the north-east giants after excelling during a recent trial.

Newcastle have beaten off competition from other Premier League clubs to sign Mills, who has agreed terms and will sign a scholarship contract.

Newcastle have agreed to pay Vale a price of up to £200,000, indicating the youngster’s enormous potential.

On Tuesday, Football Insider revealed that the Tyneside club had won the race to sign Mills.

They are currently finalizing an agreement that will allow the adolescent to join them in the coming weeks.

It demonstrates Newcastle’s multi-tiered approach to recruitment, with the club looking to not only take advantage of their Saudi owners’ wealth by spending big on senior stars, but also luring the best young English talent as they look to develop future first teamers from within the ranks.

The Magpies have a history of producing top-tier talent, with Sean Longstaff, Matty Longstaff, and Elliot Anderson among the current talents to come through the club’s academy.

Fans also got a glimpse of the future during the club’s winter training camp in Saudi Arabia in late 2022, when Under-21 players Lewis Miley, Dylan Stephenson, Jay Turner-Cooke, Joe White, and Alex Murphy joined Eddie Howe’s senior team.

Miley went on to make his Premier League debut on the season’s last day (May 28), coming off the bench in a 1-1 tie with Chelsea.

Following the Saudi-backed takeover of Newcastle in 2021, co-owner Amanda Staveley said that constructing a new academy is high on the club’s priority list.

Newcastle hired ex-Leicester Recruitment Operations Manager Claire Burrows last month (May 24), one of about 20 important academy hires made since the takeover.
