Deal Newcastle tips to sign 23-year-old Canadian shadow striker before the end of this summer

Newcastle United are still putting together their roster for next season’s Champions League campaign, with a Canadian likely to play at St James’ Park.

As Eddie Howe continues his Tyneside revolution, Newcastle United could make a surprise move for one Canadian great.

Despite their wealth, the Magpies have been somewhat quiet in the summer window, with just Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali entering as a big-name signing thus far. Yankuba Minteh, an 18-year-old Gambian, has also joined.

Newcastle are apparently looking to add a left-back to their squad ahead of the new season, while talks for another winger continue.

According to L’Equipe, Canadian talent Jonathan David is a target for the Toon.

For years, David has been connected with a number of English clubs, including Liverpool and Arsenal. He has plenty of top-level experience, having won the title with Lille in 2021, but because he is regarded to be best played as a shadow striker or a false nine, David may be deemed too specialised a footballer for other teams.

Newcastle currently has an intriguing frontline, with Callum Wilson centrally, Alexander Isak fitting in centrally and on the left, and Allan Saint-Maximin, Anthony Gordon, and Miguel Almiron all alternatives.

Eddie Howe is likely to value David’s pushing skills, therefore he might play across the front three or in an advanced midfield position.

Tottenham Hotspur are also rumoured to be interested in him, but with the north Londoners’ packed attack, it appears to be a move that is dependent on Harry Kane’s future.

Transfermarkt values David at €60 million.

Newcastle United transfer rumors are heating up, with the Magpies’ ability to spend big on new players coming into focus this summer.

The saga of Kieran Tierney continues, with the Scot still connected with Newcastle.Southampton’s Tino Livramento is also being pursued, as are Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher and Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips.

Meanwhile, Newcastle’s interest in Kieran Tierney might allow Alexander Isak to take on a more Thierry Henry-like role.
