Crystal Palace’s contract with Wilfried Zaha is set to expire at the end of the season.
Tony Cascarino believes Wilfred Zaha would ‘enjoy’ the challenge of dealing with Newcastle United‘s high level of expectation.
The Crystal Palace winger’s contract expires in the summer, and he appears to be on his way out of Selhurst Park with no new deal in sight.
During his two spells with the Eagles, Zaha scored 89 goals and provided 76 assists in 451 appearances. He has six Premier League goals in 20 games this season and has been linked with a number of clubs, including Chelsea, Arsenal, and AC Milan.
The Ivorian international, who returned from a hamstring injury in Palace’s 1-0 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday, has previously piqued the Magpies’ interest.
Cascarino, a former Millwall and Chelsea forward, has urged Newcastle to sign the 30-year-old, who he believes would be a ‘great fit’ at St James’ Park.
“I believe they should sign Wilfried Zaha. When his contract with Crystal Palace expires this summer, he will be available for free, and he would be a great fit,” Cascarino told The Times.
“Some players struggle to cope with the passion and expectations at St James’ Park, but Zaha knows how good he is and would relish the chance to show it at a club chasing a place in the Champions League. Newcastle require more in those wide attacking positions, and he is a steal.”
