The midfielder from Leicester City might be another savvy signing for the Magpies this summer.
Newcastle United have only recently begun their incredible makeover at St James’ Park, and they will definitely be looking to add to their already impressive roster this summer.
According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Newcastle United are planning a summer move for Harvey Barnes to save him from his faltering Leicester City team.
The rapid transformation of a relegation-threatened side into a Champions League contender on Tyneside has been one of the season’s biggest talking points, and Howe will be pleased with the progress his squad has made in his first full season in charge at St James’ Park.
Indeed, the club has been strengthened by a Saudi-led buyout, which has made them one of the richest clubs in the world and given them the ability to acquire some tremendous talent, with notable acquisitions including Bruno Guimaraes, Sven Botman, and Alexander Isak.
However, it is undeniable that the Newcastle manager’s keen eye and expertise in player development have assisted him in reviving the careers of Newcastle mainstays such as Sean Longstaff, Joelinton, Fabian Schar, Jacob Murphy, and Miguel Almiron, to name a few.
While Newcastle are capable of buying ready-made superstars, Howe has shown that he is eager to continue developing homegrown talent despite their Champions League ambitions, with Anthony Gordon becoming the most recent player to join the intriguing project in the North East.
By winning the signature of Harvey Barnes, the Newcastle manager might replicate his Gordon masterclass by bringing in another English star who has been subjected to relegation issues while having the quality to provide something spectacular.
Over 28 league games, the Foxes winger has 10 goals, one assist, and three major opportunities created, while also averaging 2.1 shots on goal per game, demonstrating that he is a significant threat in front of goal from the left flank.
Barnes has received high accolades during his career, with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressing his respect for him:
“Barnes is probably one of the biggest talents, I’m not sure if he’s respected or appreciated as much as he should be, he’s an unbelievable player to be honest, a proper Leicester product.”
According to talkSPORT, Newcastle are ready to cash in on Allan Saint-Maximin following an unsatisfactory season, which might open the door for Barnes to contend for a spot in the team if the Magpies are willing to match his reputed £50 million asking price.
Having said that, it will be fascinating to see how Newcastle approaches the next stage of their development if they qualify for the Champions League next season.
There’s no reason Barnes couldn’t be another terrific potential for Howe to use in his relentless front line.
