Eddie Howe asks Newcastle united board to sign French powerful striker as talks with agent ongoing

Newcastle United have started talks with Marcus Thuram.

This season, the Frenchman has done well, scoring 15 goals and providing four assists in 26 competitive appearances.

Thuram has been with Borussia Monchengladbach since 2019, and his contract expires at the end of the season.

Roland Virkus, the club’s sporting director, recently confirmed that the 25-year-old will leave on a free transfer this summer.

“We have to accept that Marcus could go to even bigger clubs,” Virkus told Sport1. “The fact that players will leave us for free is not a good situation, and I will not sugarcoat it.”

Thuram has piqued the interest of a number of clubs, including Premier League side Newcastle, who are looking for a versatile forward who can play both in the middle and out wide.

The Magpies have already begun talks with the player’s representatives about relocating to the North East of England, according to 90min.

According to the report, Newcastle sees Thuram as a potential replacement for Allan Saint-Maximin, who is expected to leave in the summer.

Chelsea and Barcelona are said to have dropped their interest in Thuram, but Eddie Howe’s side may still face competition for his signature.

Inter Milan is said to be one of his admirers, and they are confident of landing the France international.

Newcastle are expected to bolster their midfield in the upcoming transfer window, in addition to strengthening their front line.

Khephren Thuram, Thuram‘s younger brother, could be an option, with Newcastle among the clubs interested in signing the Nice midfielder.

Marcus and Kephren Thuram are currently with the France national team, with the latter appearing as a late substitute in Friday’s 4-0 Euro 2024 qualifying win over the Netherlands.
