Eddie Howe asks Newcastle United to sign Man Utd midfielder star to pair Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle United are now interested in signing Scott McTominay before the summer transfer window closes.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle first expressed interest in the midfielder in January after learning that the Scotland international was concerned about how little time he was getting on the pitch under Erik ten Hag.

According to this new exclusive / report, Eddie Howe is now determined to re-sign Scott McTominay once the summer window opens.

Prior to ten Hag’s arrival, the midfielder was gradually increasing his game time at Manchester United.

Scott McTominay had started 20 Premier League matches in 2019/20, then 24 PL starts in 2020/21, and 28 Premier League starting elevens last season (2021/22).

However, McTominay has only started seven Premier League games this season, and only one of those has come in the last five and a half months, since 2 October 2022. The writing is clearly on the wall, with Scott McTominay only appearing once in the Europa League this season.

Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, and Fred are clearly above him in the pecking order right now. Erik ten Hag even brought in January loan signing Marcel Sabitzer to replace Scott McTominay, whose last Premier League match was in November.

According to the Telegraph, Eddie Howe sees Scott McTominay as a player he can develop further and believes the midfielder has the physical attributes to succeed in his preferred system at Newcastle United.

According to the report, the NUFC Head Coach sees the 26-year-old as capable of playing defensive midfield, allowing Bruno to play further up the pitch in more dangerous areas.

According to the exclusive, Scott McTominay has been on the NUFC wish list for the past year, with Eddie Howe, Chief Scout Steve Nickson, and Sporting Director Dan Ashworth all agreeing that he would be a fantastic addition.

The Scotland international will have two years left on his five-year contract with Manchester United when it expires in the summer.

The Telegraph also claims that, in addition to Scott McTominay, Eddie Howe wants at least four or five new signings in addition to the Manchester United midfielder, especially with European football almost certainly on the cards for next season.

Arsenal left back Kierney is another name on Eddie Howe’s summer wishlist, according to the Telegraph.

He is also of the right age, turning 26 in June. Plus, like Scott McTominay, he isn’t getting much game time.

Tierney appeared in 24 Premier League games last season, starting 20 of them and sitting out the other four. This season, despite being available for every Premier League match, he has started only four and been named to the bench 24 times, with Zinchenko now first choice.

Much will depend on the type of European competition Eddie Howe and the Newcastle United owners will be involved in to determine how ambitious they will be overall. The Champions League will, of course, result in a massive increase in cash both directly (prize money, etc.) and indirectly (sponsorship deals, etc.), as well as making the club more appealing to new signings.

Shadow plans and ideas are currently being developed, but they will not be finalized until May, when Newcastle United will begin pursuing the preferred targets.
