Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle United, has a track record of developing players who need a fresh start.
Newcastle United will continue their summer spending spree by signing three English players who are all looking for new opportunities.
Toon manager Eddie Howe will improve his midfield options by signing Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher and Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips, before adding Southampton right-back Tino Livramento to his squad ahead of next season, according to the Telegraph.Newcastle had previously signed highly rated Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali from AC Milan for €70 million.
Following a spectacular season in which the Magpies finished fourth in the Premier League and qualified for the Champions League, Howe is eager to enhance competitiveness and depth ahead of next season. Thanks to their Saudi owners, the team is in good financial shape and eager to get started next season.
Despite this, Newcastle are mindful that they must adhere to financial fair play guidelines and are hence looking to bring in quality targets for less. Gallagher, Phillips, and Livramento moves would all suit the description for different reasons.
Gallagher, 23, is one of many Chelsea players rumored to be on the market this summer, as the London club seeks to balance the books after an eye-watering €600 million outlay last season. The England international is praised for his work ethic, but he lacks the technical ability to make an impact in big games.
Phillips, 27, has struggled since joining Man City last summer and may require a transfer to get his career back on track. City won the treble, but the former Leeds player will be aware that he played only a minor role in a season marred by injury and a loss of confidence.
Livramento was a member of Southampton’s bottom-of-the-table Championship team last season and is looking to return to the Premier League. All three players are expected to be offered at bargain pricing.
