According to Alex Crook, Newcastle United is interested in signing West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen because Eddie Howe has always admired the 26-year-old.
Bowen has scored 25 goals in 115 appearances since joining the Hammers from Hull City in 2020. Bowen was selected for Gareth Southgate’s England team last season as a result of his strong play.
The former Hull City attacker has struggled to contribute the same number of goals to David Moyes’ West Ham team this season, who are in danger of being relegated.
According to TalkSPORT reporter Crook, West Ham are hesitant to approve the attacker’s departure if they stay in the Premier League since Declan Rice is also “pushing” for a summer transfer out of the London Stadium.
He stated: “Three years after nearly signing with the Magpies, West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen is back on Newcastle’s wanted list.
“Bowen, who would almost surely depart the London Stadium if West Ham are demoted from the Premier League, has long been a favorite of Toon manager Eddie Howe.
While Steve Bruce was the manager, Newcastle was interested in acquiring Bowen from Hull but were unable to match the £18 million West Ham paid for him.
If West Ham stays in the division, they won’t want to part with Bowen since Declan Rice, a target of Arsenal, is pushing for a summer transfer.
Oh dear
There are currently unfavorable stories regarding West Ham United everywhere you turn.
There doesn’t appear to be much going right at the London Stadium right now, from the team’s battle against relegation to Moyes’ uncertain future as manager and now to Newcastle’s interest in Bowen.
The fact that Newcastle has rekindled their interest in the winger is not shocking.
The Hammers’ offensive has been utterly unimpressive throughout the season, but Bowen has been one of the few bright spots.
The lack of service to his feet and the limited alternatives available to him when he does get the ball have been the problem for the England international.
Bowen typically only has one target in the box in the systems Moyes has used this season, and the opposing defense frequently doubles up on him.
It would not be surprising to see Bowen really contemplate a move to St James’ Park even if the Hammers manage to keep their Premier League status this season.
