Eddie Howe release strong Newcastle United XI to face Borussia Dortmund with big Alexander Isak decision

Following their stunning win against PSG last time out in this competition, Tyneside is preparing itself for another Champions League night.

Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund are the opponents and although they are yet to win in this season’s competition, they have tasted defeat just once in their last 19 games in all competitions and are unbeaten in the league this season.

Newcastle, meanwhile, come into the game after a comfortable win over Crystal Palace and Eddie Howe has a relatively full squad to pick from with just Harvey Barnes, Sven Botman and Joe Willock likely to miss the game.

Here, we take a look at the starting XI Howe could pick to face Borussia Dortmund at St James’ Park:

1. GK: Nick Pope

Pope kept yet another clean sheet at the weekend, but in truth had to do very little against a blunt Crystal Palace attack. Borussia Dortmund are expected to ask more questions of him on Wednesday night.

2. RB: Kieran Trippier

3. CB: Jamaal Lascelles

4. CB: Fabian Schar

5. LB: Dan Burn

6. CM: Sean Longstaff

7. CM: Bruno Guimaraes

8. CM: Joelinton

9. RW: Miguel Almiron

10. ST: Callum Wilson

After missing the draw with West Ham through suspension, Gordon reminded everyone just what a threat he can be when he’s on top form - something he has shown time and time again this campaign.

11. LW: Anthony Gordon
