Eddie Howe set to build strong defensive wall as Newcastle Utd plotting move to sign Robin Koch

According to Caught Offside, Robin Koch emerged as a summer target for Newcastle United. The Leeds United star may evaluate his options at the end of the season as he seeks to play for a bigger club in order to improve his international chances.

Newcastle United will enter the next transfer window looking for a new central defender to bolster their defense. Eddie Howe appears to prefer signing a player with extensive Premier League experience over signing someone from abroad. The Magpies have one of the toughest defenses in the league, which the manager wants to improve.

This season, Fabian Schar and Sven Botman have established themselves as one of the best central defensive pairings in the Premier League. They have conceded the fewest goals this season, which Howe will hope to continue in order to secure a top-four spot.

If Howe looks beyond the pair, the alternatives are either underwhelming or of poor overall quality. The manager is looking for a new signing to bolster the backline, and several options are reportedly being discussed. Mohammed Salisu of Southampton, among others, is on their shortlist.

Botman’s former Lille teammate Tiago Djalo is also a target, as is Wolves star Max Kilman. Robin Koch of Leeds United is the latest player on Howe’s radar. The German defender has thrived at Elland Road, becoming one of the club’s key defenders.

Leeds United are in real danger of relegation at the end of the season, which could lead to the departure of several key players. In Koch’s case, he wants to demonstrate his abilities to German national team boss Hansi Flick. He believes that exposure at a larger club would benefit him in this regard.

Playing for Leeds in a relegation battle may not be beneficial to him. As a result, signing for bigger clubs has become necessary. Newcastle United could be the ideal fit for Koch’s ambitions. Next season, the Magpies will compete in Europe, making it an appealing destination.

If Howe is successful in signing him from Leeds, he will have plenty of opportunities in the first team. Koch is under contract until 2024, so he could be available for a reasonable price this summer. The Magpies will undoubtedly take note of his price point, as it may allow them to focus their resources on other targets.

Koch can play either right or left central defense, making him a viable option for Newcastle. He will almost certainly become an upgrade over someone like Jamal Lascelles, allowing Howe to rotate his pack on a regular basis.
