Finally, Fabrizio Romano drop updates as Matheus Franca set to join Newcastle

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United has made a second offer to Flamengo for Matheus Franca.

On Thursday, a transfer insider reported on Twitter that the Magpies had made a €16 million (£14 million) bid for the 18-year-old.

Along with Newcastle, Lyon and Real Madrid are keeping an eye on France, according to Romano.

Newcastle has been connected with Franca for several weeks.

Globo reported just before Christmas that the Magpies had ‘started discussions’ for the 18-year-old.

Romano asked fans to keep a lookout for prospective offers for Franca two weeks ago.

“One of my favorite talents, Matheus Franca, is a potential transfer I’d keep an eye on,” he told CaughtOffside.

“He’s doing fantastic at Flamengo and Newcastle are interested in signing him, but there’s still no formal agreement.

“Newcastle will make another push in the coming days, while Bayer Leverkusen has been following him for a long time.”

Bayer Leverkusen is also said to be interested in the Newcastle target.

Flamengo reportedly turned down a €14 million (£12 million) proposal from the Bundesliga club for the teenager.

According to reports, Franca’s contract has a €100 million (£87 million) release clause.

However, teams appear to be looking to haggle that sum down, as Leverkusen did.

And, according to Romano’s report, Newcastle is currently attempting.

Franca is incredibly adaptable. Last season, he played as a striker and an offensive midfielder. He is also capable of playing on either wing.

Newcastle appears to believe Franca has tremendous promise and might have a future with the Magpies in a variety of capacities.

He is already a first-team player in Brazil. So, if Newcastle makes a breakthrough, he could be another inspired signing.

The Magpies deserve credit for conducting their transfer business properly.

There have been no lavish purchases, only savvy additions and outstanding young players for the future.
