Good news as four Newcastle United stars return in full preparation to face Liverpool

Four Newcastle United players have returned to full training ahead of their match against Liverpool.

Eddie Howe has welcomed back to training a quartet of Newcastle United players ahead of Liverpool’s visit to St James’ Park.

Newcastle United received a timely injury boost this week, with key attacking duo Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron returning to training. Both players left the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday with apparent injuries, with Callum Wilson and Joe Willock also suffering problems before and during the game.

Saint-Maximin limped off the Vitality Stadium with what appeared to be a knee injury after an awkward fall, while Almiron was hit in the hand. Eddie Howe was confident in the severity of both issues after the game and has thankfully welcomed both men back to the training pitch this week.

Willock, on the other hand, is racing against the clock to be cleared for the Carabao Cup final later this month after limping off with a hamstring injury on the south coast. “The concern from today is Joe, who has gone off with a hamstring problem, so we’ll see how he is,” Howe said at full strength.

Wilson is also attempting to accelerate his return to the fold but admitted on his BBC podcast this week that he suffered a minor injury in training last week. “I was dying inside to go back there, to a club that has been so good to me,” he admitted co-hosting Michail Antonio. “But then I felt some tightness during training. When you work hard, this can happen. We’d worked hard in previous games, and we train just as hard as we play.”

Jamaal Lascelles has also returned to training after missing the trip to Bournemouth due to personal circumstances. Meanwhile, Javier Manquillo has returned to the team after a quick recovery from a knee injury.

Due to the absences of Willock and Bruno Guimaraes for the St James’ Park clash, Howe is likely to try a new midfield three against Liverpool this weekend. For the majority of Saturday’s 1-1 draw, Newcastle relied on Joelinton and Sean Longstaff, with new signing Anthony Gordon operating further forward in a number 10 role. Elliot Anderson is another player who could come off the bench.
