Alexander Isak will be key for ‘flying’ Newcastle United’s Champions League hopes
Newcastle United will be hoping that Alexander Isak can keep scoring in their push for a place in the Champions League next season.
According to Jermaine Jenas, Alexander Isak could be the key to Newcastle United qualifying for the Champions League next season, as Eddie Howe’s side “have more stability” than Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
Newcastle will move up to third place if they beat Manchester United on Sunday, thanks to Isak’s last-minute winner against Nottingham Forest before the international break. The Magpies still have a chance to finish in the top four, as they look to use their two games in hand over Tottenham to put some distance between themselves and the team currently in fourth place.
Newcastle’s defense has been outstanding this season, but Jenas believes that whether or not his former club can fire up the other end of the pitch will make all the difference come May, and he has singled out Isak as the man who can step up for Howe’s team.
“This year has been fantastic for them. Eddie Howe’s approach is fantastic. “Defense has been crucial in getting them here, but Isak will need a run from here to the end of the season,” Jenas said (via the Mirror).
“Fans know there’s a player in there, but he hasn’t gotten to the point where he can be relied on due to injuries.” Looking at him now and his confidence, he could be the one to get them into the top four.
