JUST IN: Newcastle United star to terminate contract as English clubs race to agree deal

Matty Longstaff wishes to leave Newcastle United as English clubs rush to reach an agreement.

According to Football Insider, Matty Longstaff is set to leave Newcastle United for free in the summer.

Longstaff’s contract expires in June, and it is understood that the north-east giants have no plans to renew it.

The 22-year-old is attracting interest from Championship and League One clubs and is regarded as an appealing prospect if he is available for free.

After failing to make an impression on Eddie Howe’s side, the midfielder sees himself leaving in the summer, according to Football Insider.

Matty Longstaff, unlike his brother Sean, has struggled to settle at St James’ Park and has spent the first half of the season on loan at Colchester United.

He appeared in ten games for the League Two club before suffering an injury on Boxing Day.

Longstaff returned to Tyneside after suffering an ACL injury and will be out for several months.

Longstaff has been on loan to Aberdeen and Mansfield Town since being promoted to the first team from the academy in 2021, and has made just 20 senior appearances for the Magpies.

It is now believed that Championship and League One clubs will look to sign the out-of-favour midfielder at the end of the season, and it is increasingly likely that he will leave for free.

Sean Longstaff, on the other hand, has been a fan favorite under Howe and has made 30 appearances for Newcastle this season.

In those appearances, he has three goals and three assists.

The 25-year-old signed a contract extension in May which keeps him at St James’ until 2025.

In other news, Newcastle United is reportedly interested in signing Wolves star Max Kilman.
