Leicester City Newcastle United and Wolves dragging to sign Bundesliga magical midfielder

Newcastle, Leicester, and Wolves are reportedly interested in Union Berlin midfielder Rani Khedira ahead of a possible summer move to the Premier League.

The 29-year-old is expected to be available on a free transfer after refusing to sign a contract extension with the German club, so whoever wins the race to sign him will be getting a steal.

Indeed, Khedira has been one of Union’s standout performers this season, with his team currently sitting in fourth place in the Bundesliga table, so the interest is understandable.

According to the German outlet SPORTBild, the midfielder is likely to move to England due to interest from the Premier League trio.

According to the report, Khedira has ‘developed into a leader’ at Union, particularly this season when they have massively outperformed and are challenging for the league title.

As previously stated, the German international has so far refused to sign a contract extension amid speculation about his future, so a departure appears increasingly likely.

Although no English clubs have made an official approach for Khedira, Newcastle, Leicester, and Wolves are thought to be leading the race.

Eddie Howe’s midfield trio of Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes, and Sean Longstaff has been a key reason for Newcastle’s success this season.

However, it appears that the English coach is still looking to strengthen that position ahead of next season, with the Tynesiders linked with a number of centre-midfielders in recent weeks.

Khedira is a versatile player who can play as a defensive midfielder but also as a centre-back on occasion, so he could provide cover in a variety of positions for Howe.

Leicester are almost certain to lose Youri Tielemans at the end of the season, so signing Union’s number eight could be a very wise move by Brendan Rodgers.

The Foxes have struggled to maintain form this season, currently sitting in 16th place in the Premier League table, so signing Khedira would be a huge boost.

Similarly, Wolves are in relegation trouble after winning just seven games this season.

Liverpool and Arsenal have recently been linked with a move for Wolves captain Ruben Neves, so Julen Lopetegui may opt to replace him with Khedira.

Newcastle are the midfielder’s preferred option of the three this summer, with the club looking likely to compete in Europe next summer.

With that in mind, Leicester and Wolves may have to make a substantial contract offer to Khedira in order to convince him to reject the Tynesiders.
