Leicester City set to hold talks with agent as Newcastle continues negotiations to sign midfielder

Newcastle United is allegedly interested in signing Youri Tielemans from Leicester City.

Newcastle United were interested in signing the 25-year-old Belgian midfielder at the start of the season, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, but was put off by Leicester’s asking price.

“Newcastle have long loved the player, but these types of suitors over the summer were very much turned off by Leicester adhering to their pricing,” he told GiveMeSport.

“They wanted beyond £30 million, even close to £35 million with add-ons added because that was what they spent for Youri Tielemans. So, at worst, Leicester wanted to break even, which is no longer realistic.”

The 25-year-old has established himself as one of the league’s top center midfielders, and he has been linked with several clubs.

Tielemans‘ contract expires at the end of the season, and it remains to be seen whether the Foxes are willing to cash in on him this month. The Foxes would prefer not to lose him on a free transfer, therefore it makes sense to sell him this month.

The Belgian will want to play for a bigger club, and a move to Newcastle may be ideal. The Magpies are on track to qualify for the Champions League, and they have an ambitious project at their disposal.

At the heart of Newcastle’s midfield, the 25-year-old might be the ideal companion for Bruno Guimaraes.

Tielemans, in addition to being a terrific passer, will provide a long-range goal threat. He has settled fairly well in the Premier League and might make an early impact at St James’ Park next season.

Newcastle has an outstanding roster at their disposal, but they can improve in the middle.

Bringing in an improvement for players like Jonjo Shelvey at the end of the season should be a priority for them, and Tielemans appears to be an ideal fit.
