Manchester City, led by Pep Guardiola, are interested in Bruno Guimaraes and may offer Kalvin Phillips to Newcastle United as part of a deal.
According to The Sunday Mirror (19/03, p78), City has expressed “strong interest” in signing Bruno this summer.
According to reports, City is so interested that they are willing to offer a part-exchange deal involving fellow midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
Phillips has made only a few appearances for City since joining from Leeds United for £45 million last summer.
Newcastle would also be offered £80 million in the hope of securing a deal for the Brazilian star.
Real Madrid is interested in Bruno and is expected to increase their interest at the end of the season.
Newcastle is fighting to keep Bruno and has offered him a better contract to stay at St James’ Park.
This could be a tough battle for Bruno’s services, but we believe Newcastle will come out on top.
Pep Guardiola may be a big Bruno fan, and why wouldn’t he be?
Since joining Newcastle, the former Lyon man has been simply outstanding, usually running the show from midfield.
Bruno’s technical ability, desire, and work rate will all lead Guardiola to believe that he will fit in perfectly at City.
However, you have to wonder why Bruno would leave Newcastle right now.
Bruno appears to enjoy life at Newcastle, the fans adore him, and the club is pushing for a place in the top four – and, no doubt, bigger goals in the coming years.
Newcastle don’t need to sell their assets, and Phillips as a part-exchange isn’t as appealing as it could have been given his limited playing time this season.
Bruno will surely remain a key part of the Newcastle side for a while yet and City’s attempts surely won’t lead anywhere.
