Newcastle pick another $76m transfer battle with Liverpool to sign world class defender

Liverpool transfer news: According to reports, the Reds will make a second bid for a defender, with the Reds potentially spending another $76 million with Newcastle United.

Jürgen Klopp’s summer rebuilding of Liverpool is taking shape, with two midfielders coming through the door.

After signing Alexis MacAllister before the transfer market even began, the Reds added Dominik Szoboszlai on Sunday, with the Hungary international signing a five-year agreement after joining from RB Leipzig.

Now Liverpool must make a huge decision on their next transfer priority, though it appears Klopp and Jörg Schmadtke have already decided which position they will pursue.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool will not consider adding a third midfielder unless it first offloads another player in that position. That means a defender appears to be the more likely option, and several names have been mentioned.

According to recent Italian media reports, Liverpool has already made a bid for one of those alternatives and has another ready to go. Meanwhile, the Reds could face another struggle with Newcastle, as well as a few of other Premier League opponents.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool is ready to compete with Newcastle, Arsenal, and Tottenham for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi’s signature.

A deal for the England international could be difficult, with Palace reportedly seeking bids in excess of $76 million (£60 million/€70 million) – the same sum Liverpool paid for Dominik Szoboszlai.

According to Liverpool.com, Guehi has been impressive for Palace over the last couple of seasons, but you’d think Liverpool wouldn’t want to spend another $76 million on a single player this summer, especially another right-footed defender. The opportunity to deny Newcastle another deal is enticing, but the Reds may likely let this one slip through their fingers.

According to Tuttosport, Liverpool is preparing to make another proposal for defender Perr Schuurs after Torino rejected its initial offer.

The Serie A club is claimed to have rejected a $33 million (£26 million/€30 million) bid from the Reds, as well as a $27 million (£21 million/€25 million) bid with bonuses from Napoli. Jürgen Klopp is said to be a fan of Schuurs, whom the Liverpool manager has said he wants ‘at any cost’.

According to Liverpool.com, it’s no surprise that the number of defenders associated with Liverpool has increased in recent days. Schuurs’ name hasn’t been mentioned much in recent weeks, but if Klopp is as much a fan as the Italian media implies, who can argue with the Reds manager?
