According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Newcastle United is preparing to make a £52 million deal for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
According to the report, the Magpies are ready to make a hefty offer to sign the 27-year-old at St James’ Park.
This plan would include an initial £52 million, followed by a £11 million signing bonus for the player. He would also be paid £9 million each year.
Despite this, Lazio is expected to reject the offer.
This season, Serbia international has appeared in 22 games for Lazio. Of these, 16 have come in Serie A, where he has three goals and seven assists from the center of the field.
According to WhoScored, Milinkovic-Savic is the team’s top player this season. The midfielder has three Man of the Match accolades and has averaged 1.7 tackles, 1.4 clearances, and 0.9 interceptions per game. In the opposite direction, he has averaged 1.6 shots and 1.3 critical passes per match.
“Sergej Milinkovi-Savi is wonderful,” says colleague Circo Immobile (via Fabrizio Romano). He’s on par with Kevin De Bruyne”.
If he can play as well as the Belgian in the Premier League, it’s simple to see why Newcastle wants him so desperately.
The club has the funds to make a transaction, and with his current contract expiring, Lazio may be obliged to sell the player.
