According to iNews’ Mark Douglas, Leicester City star James Maddison is ‘interested’ in the project on offer at Newcastle United.
Newcastle has resurrected their interest and identified the Premier League playmaker as our top summer target, according to the report, after having two bids rejected last year.
Douglas goes on to say that securing Champions League football could seal the deal,’ with the ambitious 26-year-old desperate to play at the highest level – and boost his England chances – after playing in the Europa League with Leicester.
With his contract set to expire next summer, the piece goes on to say that he is highly unlikely to sign a new deal at the King Power Stadium, with Leicester set to reluctantly cash in while they can as he approaches the final year of his deal.
We may have a chance to sign the midfielder without the lure of the top four, assuming he buys into our long-term project and rejects offers from Manchester City, but it appears Champions League football could be crucial.
