Newcastle United are in a ‘tug of war’ with Paris Saint-Germain to acquire Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
According to SportBILD, the two clubs are battling for the Frenchman’s contract, with the player expected to leave Germany at the end of the season.
According to the publication, Leverkusen will have a ‘totally different appearance’ next season, with numerous first-team talents poised to leave after impressing in Germany.
Diaby is one of them, with 14 goals and 11 assists in 47 games across all competitions this season, bringing his career total to 49 goals and 48 assists in 171 games. To say the least, these are impressive figures.
He’s been a target for clubs all throughout Europe for some time, most notably Newcastle, who have been interested in him since last year.
Several reports have stated that they intend to pursue him this summer, with the club’s Saudi owners reportedly anxious to complete a deal.
That appears to be the case, with SportBILD announcing today that they are in a “tug of war” with PSG over the player.
It is claimed that both teams are willing to pay whatever is required for Diaby’s signature and that the player may be able to choose where he will play. Leverkusen, for one, is expecting him to go at some point.
The question is who Diaby would pick. Newcastle can offer him high money and Champions League football, but PSG, the youngster’s old club, can as well.
As a result, he may have to choose between returning to Paris to establish himself and moving to England to continue his upward trajectory in the Premier League.
In any case, Newcastle are still in the running for his signature, and are even actively competing with PSG for it, according to SportBILD.
