Newcastle United drop huge injury update about £45million star Anthony Gordon

Anthony Gordon has already dealt with an injury setback in his Newcastle United career.

Gordon, 22, was not seen in training last week, implying that he will not be available for Newcastle’s game against Wolves.

That proved to be the case, as the January signing fell through. Allan Saint-Maximin took his place, and Jacob Murphy joined the Magpies’ attack.

Gordon was unable to compete due to an ankle injury, which was later confirmed.

According to the Daily Mail, he will be out of commission for two to three weeks.

It is an agonizing blow for the Everton academy graduate, and the injury comes at a terrible time.

Gordon had had a slow start on Tyneside after arriving for £45 million. He had to sit out the Carabao Cup semi-finals and final, and he was reduced to cameo appearances as a substitute in the Premier League, where he frequently played out of position.

However, the youngster appeared animated, quickly endearing himself to the Toon Army.

His big chance came on March 4th, when Newcastle visited the Etihad. Eddie Howe made several changes against Manchester City, including starting Gordon for the first time. The manager thought the speedster did well, showing even more promise.

It appeared that he would make his first St James’ Park start against Wolves, but then injury struck. He had a golden opportunity to cement his place in the starting XI, but it was snatched away from him.

Saint-Maximin played well in his absence, and Jacob Murphy looked promising on the right. Almiron scored the game-winning goal against Wolves.

With three wingers flourishing, Gordon‘s return to the starting lineup will be extremely difficult. When he returns from injury, he may have to settle for cameo appearances off the bench once more.

He hopes to return after the international break when Newcastle hosts Manchester United on April 2nd at St James’ Park.
