Newcastle United fans celebrate as best attacking midfielder fully back in training

Miguel Almiron is working his way back from injury and is set to make an emotional return to the United States this summer.

Newcastle United fan Miguel Almiron has tweeted a positive update as he works hard behind the scenes on his injury comeback. The Paraguayan hasn’t played since scoring the winner in a 2-1 win over Wolves last month, but he could return for Tottenham Hotspur’s visit next Saturday as he recovers from a thigh injury.

Almiron has been running on grass in recent weeks and provided another update to Newcastle supporters on Monday by sharing a video of himself performing a number of stretches at the training field. The winger was also present for practice on Tuesday, where he provided a second update.

There was some hope that Almiron would be back in action sooner than expected in recent weeks, but Eddie Howe reaffirmed that the goal remains late April. “I’d love him to beat the timeframe given, but I don’t see it happening right now,” Newcastle manager Steve Bruce said.

“He’s making good progress and is pain-free, so I don’t think there will be any long-term issues, but it’s just a matter of time before the muscle heals.” We’re probably four weeks away, maybe a little less, but he’s making great strides.

Almiron will return to his previous club this summer when Newcastle travels to the United States for the inaugural Premier League Super Series. The Magpies will play their second of three games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which is also the home of Almiron’s previous club Atlanta United.

Between 2016 and 2019, Almiron played for the MLS team, becoming a fan favorite. Newcastle CEO Darren Eales joined the club from Atlanta as well.

Newcastle will take on Aston Villa at the home of Philadelphia Eagles, Lincoln Financial Field, before facing European-chasing Brighton at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey. The three matches will take place between July 22 and July 30th.

Before that, Newcastle must strive to qualify for the Champions League at the end of the season. Almiron has been instrumental in Newcastle’s success this season, leading the team in scoring with 11 goals and three assists.

However, returning to the starting XI as a fully fit former MLS player will be difficult. Before his current injury, Almiron had already lost his starting spot to Jacob Murphy, and the lifelong Newcastle fan has held his spot from the start in Almiron’s absence.
