Newcastle United is said to be first in line for Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott.
Scott has made 80 appearances for the Robins since joining from FC Guernsey in 2020, scoring five goals and assisting seven times.
This season, the 19-year-old has been a regular in Nigel Pearson’s side, starting 32 of the club’s 33 league games.
Scott was a member of England’s Under-19 European Championship-winning team in 2022, and he has also made five international appearances for the Under-20 side.
During the January transfer window, the teenager sparked interest from Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolves were interested in signing the youngster, but they were unwilling to pay Bristol City’s £25 million asking price.
While a move away from Ashton Gate did not happen in January, Bristol City are expecting more offers when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
Newcastle is one of several Premier League clubs planning a summer move, according to Football Insider.
According to the report, the Magpies are currently leading the race ahead of Crystal Palace, West Ham United, and Wolves.
Newcastle’s willingness to loan Scott back to the Championship club for the 2023-24 season may give them an advantage over their rivals.
Scott, who is under contract until June 2025, will have the opportunity to impress against the Premier League champions when the Robins face Manchester City in the FA Cup fifth round on Tuesday.
The midfielder scored his first FA Cup goal against West Bromwich Albion in the previous round, helping his side to a 1-0 victory.
Newcastle, who lost the EFL Cup final to Manchester United on Sunday, will face Man City again this week when they travel to the Etihad Stadium for Saturday’s Premier League match.
