Newcastle United prepares for first summer move as player shock St. James’ Park with visit

Newcastle United is preparing for its first summer transfer as a player pays a surprise visit to St. James’ Park.

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele.

The former Borussia Dortmund winger will enter the final year of his current contract at Camp Nou this summer, according to Italian news outlet CalcioMercato, and a £43.7m release clause will become active during that time.

According to the report, Serie A giants Juventus and Inter Milan are interested in signing Dembele, but the fee is ‘out of reach’ for both clubs, allowing a slew of Premier League clubs to leapfrog them in the race for his signature.

Newcastle, Chelsea, and Manchester United have all been mentioned as possible destinations for Dembele, who was heavily linked with all three clubs last summer before deciding to stay with Barcelona for the season.

According to reports, the Catalan giants will look to offer Dembele a new contract in the coming months, and the winger has indicated his willingness to stay with the club and agree to an extension to the two-year contract he signed last summer.

“I signed a new contract at Barca four months ago and I’m happy here, I want to keep working and improving at Barcelona,” he told Goal. I’m fine here, I’m happy in Barcelona, and I enjoy my life here. The coach has faith in me.

The winger did make a surprise trip to the North East earlier this week, sitting alongside Sunderland chairman Kyril Louis-Dreyfus as the Black Cats suffered a 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United at the Stadium of Light.
