Newcastle United release list of five players to leave the club in the summer

Newcastle United were defeated 2-0 by Manchester United in the EFL Cup final on Sunday, denying them their first major domestic trophy since 1955.

While the Magpies will be disappointed not to have won a trophy, they will be pleased with the progress they have made since being taken over by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund.

Newcastle has been transformed from a relegation-threatened team to one that now hopes to qualify for the Champions League.

Because of the shift in expectations and the arrival of key players, some Newcastle players have fallen down the pecking order.

With Newcastle expected to add to their squad in the summer, there will almost certainly be some departures, and Sports Mole has identified five players who could leave St James’ Park at the end of the season.

Javier Manquillo

Manquillo has made over 100 appearances for Newcastle since joining from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2017, contributing one goal and seven assists.

Last January, Newcastle turned to Atletico Madrid for another right-back, signing England international Kieran Trippier, who has since established himself as the Magpies’ first-choice right-back.

Paul Dummett

Dummett has spent his entire career with his boyhood club, with the exception of a couple of loan spells with Gateshead and St Mirren.

The left-back, who can also play in central defense, has only made one competitive appearance for the Magpies this season, appearing in the Magpies’ EFL Cup victory over Tranmere Rovers in August.

Dan Burn has been preferred by Howe this season, while Newcastle also have the left-back options of Matt Targett and Jamal Lewis in the pecking order.

Matt Ritchie

Matt Ritchie, who played for Howe at both Bournemouth and Newcastle, has made 194 appearances for the Magpies, scoring 24 goals and assisting on 33 others.

With Howe able to call on the likes of Anthony Gordon, Allan Saint-Maximin, Jacob Murphy, and Miguel Almiron, Ritchie has been relegated to the Newcastle squad’s periphery.

The following are some of the things to consider when it comes to choosing a new car: a good engine, a good transmission, and a good transmission system.

Ryan Fraser

Ryan Fraser left Howe’s Bournemouth side in September 2020 to join the Magpies, but the pair were reunited when the 45-year-old was appointed Newcastle boss in November 2021.

Although the Scotland international was part of Howe’s plans last season, he has been frozen out from the first team this term.

Fraser has not featured for the North East club since October, and he is now reportedly training with the Under-21 side.

Jamaal Lascelles

Jamaal Lascelles led the club to promotion in 2016-17, and he has since made 156 Premier League appearances.

However, Lascelles‘ seven-year association with the club appears to be coming to an end, as he has lost his starting spot to Sven Botman, who joined the club last summer.

The Dutchman has formed a strong central defensive partnership with Fabian Schar, limiting Lascelles to just one Premier League start.
