Newcastle United scouts tip Matheus Franca as perfect James Maddison’s alternative

Newcastle United sporting director  Dan Ashworth is eager to bolster the present team with the inclusion of promising young talents who can be nurtured and developed by Eddie Howe over the coming years, with the transfer chief casting a broad net in search of possible gems.

The 51-year-old appears to be interested in the Brazilian market, having been linked with Angelo Gabriel and Vitor Roque in recent months, while 90min reported just a few weeks ago that the Tynesiders are in talks to sign Flamengo sensation Matheus Franca.

The Magpies were said to be ‘increasing in confidence’ that a deal might be done at the time, with the 18-year-old previously connected with a £15 million move to Crystal Palace.

The teenager, who has a release clause of over £87 million, could be on his way to St James’ Park by the end of the month, according to writer Ryan Taylor, who told GIVEMESPORT that Ashworth appears to be vital in the club’s pursuit of the playmaker.
