Newcastle United is continuing working hard behind the scenes ahead of the September transfer deadline.
The summer transfer window is drawing to a close, and Newcastle United have completed the majority of their incoming business with more than a week to spare. The Magpies have reinforced their squad by bringing in four new senior players, spending £120 million in the process.
That large outlay is made up of Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, and Tino Livramento, with Lewis Hall joining on loan before signing permanently next season. “He [Hall] is a player I like, very versatile with really good potential,” Howe said on Friday.
“Let’s see what happens today. I think if we were able to bring a player in, that would be our transfer business concluded unless there were injuries within our own players.”
For Howe, Hall’s arrival will likely spell the end of Newcastle’s incoming business. However, the north east outfit still have work to do before the window slams shut in early September.
Howe is still hoping to offload a trio of ex-senior stars, now training with the under-21 players, after making it clear they have no future at St James’ Park. Firstly, there is Ryan Fraser – who is attracting interest from a number of clubs.
Southampton registered an interest in the winger back in January and early transfer talks with the south coast outfit regarding Livramento included the Newcastle outcast. Norwich City registered an interest in Fraser earlier this summer but a move failed to materialise.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers dodged a question on the matter over the weekend, refusing to discuss transfers after being linked with the Scottish forward. Fraser continues to be linked with other sides north of the border.
Interest has been thin on the ground for Fraser’s fellow Newcastle outcasts, however, with Isaac Hayden and Jeff Hendrick yet to receive any offers for their services. Both midfielders spent last season out on loan with Norwich and Reading respectively, with both sides snubbing the chance to return with another offer this summer.
Some Newcastle fans have pondered the potential of Hayden being deployed as a squad option under Howe, but the Newcastle manager has already dismissed suggestions of the former Arsenal star returning to the first team.
Other loan exits could include Jay Turner-Cooke, Jamie Miley, Joe White, Remi Savage, Ben Parkinson, and other under-21 players.
