Newcastle United has learned the asking price for Leicester City’s James Maddison in the summer transfer window. Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in him.
According to The Telegraph, a number of Premier League clubs are interested in Maddison’s transfer. Tottenham will almost certainly test the waters in the off-season to sign the 26-year-old. However, Leicester will only consider selling if bids begin at £60 million.
Concerns about Financial Fair Play may force King Power Stadium executives to sell some of their top players. The East Midlands firm has reported record losses of £92.5 million for the fiscal year ending May 2022. However, an exodus of high-earners will aid in their major planned rebuilding.
Leicester intends to re-sign Youri Tielemans, Caglar Soyuncu, and Ayoze Perez, who are all out of contract in June. Maddison could also leave if no club meets the Foxes’ minimum £60 million asking price. He has a contract with Leicester until June 2024.
Tottenham are keeping a close eye on Maddison’s situation at Leicester ahead of his summer transfer. This season, the one-cap England international has been in superb form. In 18 Premier League appearances, he has nine goals and five assists.
However, 90min reports that Newcastle are optimistic about signing Maddison from Leicester in a summer transfer.
Eddie Howe is determined to improve his offensive options. The Magpies’ top target, according to the Toon manager, is the Foxes’ playmaker.
St James’ Park officials have long admired what Maddison could bring to Tyneside.
The Guardian reported last summer that Newcastle made two bids totaling £50 million to Leicester. However, the Foxes demanded £60 million from the Magpies.
According to The Telegraph, Leicester have moved to fend off Newcastle’s ongoing interest in his transfer. The Foxes have increased their discussions with Maddison about a new contract. Even though his contract expires in 2024, Leicester is still demanding at least £60 million.
Newcastle were interested in signing Maddison from Leicester in 2022 after he finished the Premier League season with 12 goals and eight assists in 35 games. This season, his consistently strong creativity under Rodgers has earned him Gary Lineker’s praise for a ‘extraordinary’ output.
