The Magpies have had an excellent season under Howe’s direction, but recent signs indicate that they are running out of steam. They are now winless in their last five games after losing in the Carabao Cup final. With only two goals in that time, they have dropped to sixth place in the table.
They still hope to compete in European competition next season. And that would still be an excellent season for the Tynesiders.
Howe, on the other hand, is well aware that his team will require additional talent if they are to improve further next season.
And, according to multiple reports, preparations for the summer window have already begun.
And it appears that the Magpies are eyeing two ambitious signings to kickstart those plans.
First and foremost, Newcastle is reportedly looking to persuade Barcelona to sell Raphinha.
The Brazilian winger arrived at the Nou Camp last summer after a lengthy chase from Leeds. Raphinha has six goals and seven assists in 32 games despite taking some time to find his feet.
Nonetheless, Barcelona is still in financial trouble and will be forced to sell some players this summer. With Xavi well-equipped for forward options, one of Raphinha, Ferran Torres, Ousmane Dembele, or Ansu Fati could be offloaded.
El Desmarque reports that Newcastle is ready to offer Barcelona their money back on Raphinha in order to beat the crowd.
Raphinha is set to sign a club-record deal with Newcastle.
They spent around £55 million to entice him away from Leeds. A bid to give the Blaugrana their money back may entice them to sell.
If Barcelona accepts, it would be a club-record deal for the Magpies.
However, he is not the only well-known celebrity on their radar.
And 90min reports that Newcastle are preparing a massive offer to entice Juventus star Adrien Rabiot to move to the North East.
The France midfielder is out of contract this summer and is in high demand. To that end, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Tottenham are all said to be interested in him.
However, according to reports, the first concrete proposal to land with his mother and agent Veronique will come from Newcastle.
