Newcastle United sports official spotted in France for negotiations to sign Lorient fc striker

Terem Moffi of Lorient is the latest name to be linked with a move to St James’ Park, while reports in France suggest Newcastle will make a ‘large bid’ for Lyon’s Malo Gusto.

According to Football Insider, Toon scouts were sighted in France last Wednesday, watching Lorient’s 2-2 draw with Monaco, with Moffi being the major target for Newcastle officials in attendance.

The 23-year-old, whose contract runs through 2024, scored his 11th goal of the season in the encounter, putting him second in Ligue 1 only behind PSG phenom Kylian Mbappe.

Lorient has already rejected Southampton’s £20 million approach for the Nigerian international. Given that bringing in a new striker is unlikely to be high on our priority list this month, he could be someone we keep an eye on as a long-term replacement for Chris Wood, our third-choice striker.

In terms of Gusto, Foot Mercato reports that Newcastle is preparing to increase their interest in the French U21 international, who will be familiar with Bruno Guimaraes from their time together at Lyon.

However, a summer move is regarded to be far more likely for the 19-year-old right-back, who may be permitted to depart for a minimum of €30m’ at the conclusion of the season.
